The Baton Rouge Soccer Club (BRSC), in partnership with Raising Cane’s Chicken Finger, will improve the experience of its players and coaches with the launch of a new coaching certification program. Unique to youth sports in the area, the goal of this program is to improve the skills and knowledge of volunteer coaches through an informative, one-day clinic.
Like most youth sports, BRSC relies heavily on volunteer coaches and over the years BRSC has found that the experience the players and parents had with their coaches was a strong factor in overall enjoyment and future participation.
“We know that positive experiences and outcomes in BRSC have a lot to do with each family’s experience with their team coach,” said Marvin Smith, BRSC Director of Coaching. “We are fortunate to have hundreds of volunteer coaches that have the best interest of the players at heart. These coaches need the tools to build on their soccer knowledge, and provide developmentally appropriate environments.”
To help teach developmentally appropriate coaching, BRSC will divide the certification course into age group modules. By participating in this program, coaches will learn ways to foster a positive physical, psychological and cognitive environment that will increase the likelihood of enjoyment and skill development for all players.
Raising Cane’s is partnering with BRSC to help support this progressive initiative. “Raising Cane’s is proud to help BRSC with this great initiative. Throughout my childhood, I had great coaches who were positive role models so we are excited to help bring this program to our hometown,” said Todd Graves, Founder and CEO of Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers.
Thanks to this partnership, BRSC will be able to bring a great value to encourage coach participation. Upon completion each coach will receive a BRSC Coaching Certificate, an Adidas BRSC Coaching Training Shirt, online recognition of completion and coaching aids, books, DVDs and handouts.
